9/18/2009, my late cousin and best friend Chocolate gave birth to a #stillborn baby girl. I had been studying birth work for less than a year and our entire family was excited about this new baby, and this would be Chocolate and I second time giving birth in the same year, as I had just had Dilla in June. Her daughter Juicy (6/13/02) and my son Yummy (6/22/02) were both born in 2002.
I remember I was packing a bag for the hospital and she called me screaming that her baby was dead. I called my mom and ran to the hospital. I felt that the hospital was completely negligent in letting my cousin go through the entire process of giving birth to her deceased child. It was the most horrific thing I had ever seen and that vision still bothers me. Chocolate always had questions and I always had answers, been that way since childhood... but on this day eight years ago I could not find the words to comfort her. Being that this was Chocolate's second child to pass and watching her mourn and labor and deliver, my heart was so broken for her. Chocolate died in November 2016.
This picture was taken a day before this happened, 9/17/09.
To my lil baby niece who is the reason I became a certified Holistic Doula ... Yariah 9/18/09- 9/18/09... and to all the mamas who know this pain, including a sister who had just contacted me today about doula information this morning and later told me she lost her baby at 36 weeks gestation before I even got to meet her, I send you love today. Losing a child is not something you get over, you just cope and bear the scar on your heart that never heals. I just send you all the love, because I have no words... 🌺
If this post resonates with you, please drop your angel baby's name so I can do a collective asé with you. #MaferefunEgun.
