Happy Monday everyone! Today we are rewinding back to RSA Residencies for Scotland recipient Aeneas Wilder. Aeneas spent his residency @eswsculpture support by @barnsgraham .
“The residency offered me the opportunity to experiment with transient, free standing, wall to wall structures. I have compressed structures between walls before, although not always successfully. Previous attempts have always been as part of an exhibition and so there is no space or time for adjustments.
In the Paolozzi space at ESW I had the time, space and resources, and no pressing deadline, to be able to try out experimental possibilities for future installations.
The free standing structure presented in this exhibition is not designed as a wall to wall piece, although under the right conditions this structure could be installed between two walls. The form of the work is derived from the off cuts of a 11.40m spherical outdoor work made in Belgium in 2016 (Untitled # 180). The off cuts were planned, and slightly trimmed, and used as exploratory building blocks during the residency period. However, the curve of the forming this particular work is still related to circumference of the sphere in Belgium. “
