Dismissed by its critics as a Chevy Nova covered in Cadillac stuff, the 1976-79 Seville was the most influential design for the next two decades of Luxury Cars from GM, Ford, Chrysler, Volvo and Aston Martin. The austere notch back rear wheel drive sedan was nestled on a modest 114” wheel base with an overall length of 204”. Twenty-nine inches shorter than a 1976 Cadillac Fleetwood or Lincoln Town Car. Seville was a commercial success. The President of Parsons School of Design said it was one of the most beautifully designed cars of the era.
Today, in 2018, a full size luxury sedan, from America, Europe or Asia averages approximately 204” in overall length. Not bad considering it all started forty two years ago at General Motors with some Cadillac stuff. #myseville #seville #cadillac #gm #markofexcellence #americanstandardfortheworld #artisthefocusofgooddesign
