When I went to school we used the word gay as a put down, without really thinking about what we were saying. Imagine how confusing this would have been if my classmates weren't straight? They might have felt rejected or isolated - just for being who they are. Now our Government has fostered an anti-gay message in Australia with a postal vote on whether we think it's okay to allow gay people to marry who they love. I can't even imagine how damaging this must be for some LGBTQI people - or their kids. We're all equal, and we all deserve acceptance and kindness. Making the LGBTQI community equal in the eyes of the law isn't going to remove prejudice or fear but it's a good place to start.
