"This is happening. We are going to make this happen.” That was how my call with @maayanziv_ ended 15 days ago. I don’t know how we were going to make it happen but we pushed through, learning along the way. I myself learned so much as an Instameet host. Finding a venue has always my biggest challenge but I realized there was another beast out there: accessibility. Do you know how hard it is to find an accessible venue?! How about an accessible venue WITH an accessible washroom?! 😱 These are things I never thought about because I was never put in that position. Planning & hosting #AccessKindness gave me a different perspective and was definitely a conversation starter. And that’s what our instameet (#WWIM15 ) was all about. We brought different communities together to spark a conversation.
If there is anything I want anyone to take away from the instameet, whether you were there with us or following online, and whether you are an “Instagrammer” or not, know that YOU matter because YOU have a voice. YOU have the power to start a conversation every day and one conversation is all you need to build community, spread kindness and create inclusion. @instagram is a platform but YOU are the catalyst. YOU are the impact. We accessed kindness yesterday because each one of you (80+ of you!!!) ARE kindness.
BIG congrats and thanks to everyone for being a part of this! WE all made it happen. Special thanks to @youngplaceTO for the FULLY accessible and INCLUSIVE space. Couldn’t have asked for a more perfect venue partner! To our friends from @aromaespressobar and @gforgelato for the DELICIOUS refreshments. I know what goes on in catering so I appreciate all your support in such a short notice! Thank you to my friend & co-host @maayanziv_ and the @accessnowapp community for inspiring the world to put accessibility on a map and create inclusion anywhere. Most importantly, thank you to each one of you, online or offline, for being YOU. Remember that it takes but one person, one moment, one conviction, to start a ripple of change. Little acts of kindness goes a long way.
