As a photographer, I get to witness so many special and intimate parts of a wedding day that most others don't see. These times where I get to be a fly on the wall and witness such intense emotions and memories being made feel sacred to me. They are so much of the heart of the day. I want to capture these moments and the emotions without intruding.
This moment was one of those moments. Katerina was ready to walk over to the church to get married, the room smelled of the fresh rose and peony bouquets that had just been brought in, and the excitement was growing, but before they headed out Katerina paused for the sweetest time with her girls and mother to pray. Hearing the words full of love from her friends as they prayed for calmness, blessings, peace, and as they gave thanks put me in tears. You could feel their love for Katerina and for God.
As I worked to quietly and unobtrusively get shots of this moment, even being in the same room felt like I was trespassing on sacred ground, so I slipped into a dim neighboring room to shoot through the open door. The light that streamed through the windows beside them made them look like they were glowing. The doorway gave the peek into the moment without putting me in the middle of them.
The shots I got in the room with them were nice, but this shot is the shot that takes me back to that exact moment and brings up the same emotions. Double tap if you feel you're there with me peeking in!
