Language has taken me many places. And although one thing travel has ironically taught me is an immense appreciation for family, community, and putting down roots, it has also taught me how to foster strong connections when there's so much against me. When I'm somewhere new and unfamiliar, I may not know much of the culture, the places, the food, or even the people. But when you know the language, you have a key to all of those mysterious, yet exciting, doors.
