Homemade Spaetzle with Leek and Peas ✨ I‘m back from sunny and warm Dubai to rainy and cold Istanbul. If you’ve missed the news, I’m moving to Dubai soon and spent last weekend there getting to know the city and looking for housing.
I will be honest, at first I wasn’t very fond of the idea of moving back to the desert again. Before Istanbul I lived in Egypt and didn’t find life very easy in Cairo. The bright and yellow light, the lack of greenery and the heat are factors I also associated with Dubai and didn’t like at all.
But after visiting Dubai this weekend I actually think it’s a great city to live in. It’s vibrant, buzzing and one of the most modern cities in the world, thriving to become better in every way.
But I also won’t fool myself. Moody and dark images will most likely be a thing of the past. Cozy and comfortable scenes and food will appear less on my feed. But there will be lighter and airier images. Welcoming and cheerful meals. And maybe a little touch of Middle Eastern vibes. It will still be me behind the camera, it’s just the scenery in front of it that is changing and I’m taking it as a challenge to grow personally and professionally.

Usually I am not dealing with Christmas preparations before December the 1st, but this year, either because November was so desperate or because Cindy (you all know my Cindy, right?) had an effect on me, everything went out of my plan and I have even already bought all presents. #roastedveggies - remeber a few days ago when I showed you a picture of carrots and beets ready to be roasted? Well that‘s what I ended up turning those beautiful farmers market veggies into. I sprinkled them with toasted hazelnuts, figs, pomegranates and a balsamic tahini dressing. Yummmm! This would actually also make a great side for the festivities coming up soon..

Gary and I are both home late tonight, so I’ve kept dinner super simple: bean chilli pasta bake, made with a couple of handfuls of cooked penne, a tin of @amyskitchenuk yummy vegetarian chilli, and a bit of cheese for the top. Easy, delicious, and I have enough time on the Tuesday clock left to catch up on the last two episodes of Blue Planet II. 🙌🏻🐬 (#sponsored by @amyskitchenuk) 😊 #WhatKatyEats

Why did I celebrate my 40th birthday at these metal tables on the pavement by a busy road at an unlicensed restaurant ? It wasn’t just about having a rather severe midlife crisis (over 10 years ago btw before you start wishing me happy returns!)
A friend @petramarcomms first took me to Ravi’s in 1994 and insisted on aloo paratha and chicken tikka on the bone - which I still order now.
Last night we went with visitors, as we always do, to this taxi driver’s cafe in the heart of Satwa. We tore piping hot roti with our fingers, dipped spoons into fluffy rice and steaming bowls of deeply savoury comforting Pakistani food.
The couple next to us on the table were making appreciative mmmms and aaaahs. This is no hidden gem, they were tourists who had found it on TripAdvisor. “We just had to come to Ravi’s”
It’s hard to say why this place has gained such a following when there are hundreds of restaurants serving similar excellent Punjabi food in a no-frills way in Dubai. I know this drives @fryingpanadventures mad with frustration!
But we return again and again for the Chicken Achar, the Chicken Ginger, the Channa Daal, Palak Aloo, Paneer Masala and yes, that Chicken Tika on the bone. Rose water scented rice pudding in plastic tubs sent us back off into the bustling streets with smiles of contentment.

That moment you realise oh shoot, this tastes so good but you forgot to take a picture! @izubrasserie and @izubakery next to each other serve up some classic favourites like tiramisu which is as light as air, a creme brûlée served in a tart (so u can pretend to eat the ramekin), and cheesecake which is @chefizu’s fav so goes with him to all of his restaurants. Pair that with a fantastic cup of coffee and you’ve got the perfect location for a catch-up with friends 💛 Totes recommend a visit 👍🏼
