Laguna de Apoyo is an endorheic lake occupying the caldera of an extinct volcano (Wikipedia). When we drove through the quaint town of Caterina, we approached our first true tourist trap. But I would realize there can be beauty in that as well. Laguna de Apoyo has a sweet view. And when you've had enough of the sights, behind you is a string of carts selling all the things you'll never need, one shop after the other selling the exact same thing, trinkets, shirts, paintings, carvings, magnets, and other wares, and I love it. In this instance, and not always. It can take you out of the moment and make you realize the commercialization of everything. I try not to forget I'm a tourist. The bus loads of people come and go, and we rev up Jimmy to take us to our next adventure.
