Go watch Patton Oswalt's new special "Annihilation" on Netflix. Even if you don't like Patton Oswalt or stand-up in general you should watch this and here's why: Not only is he genuinely funny, intelligent, and down to earth, but he possesses amazing strength.
He has worked so hard to get where he is today, has suffered hardships and has been suffering from depression for many years. Removing stigmas by talking openly about struggling with depression, anxiety and life in general. He has lost his wife unexpectedly last year and was left behind with his 7 year old daughter. At around 36 minutes in he starts talking about becoming a widower. You can see the sadness in his eyes as he is talking about how the day his wife died was the second worst day of his life because the worst day of his life was the day after: when he had to tell his daughter and destroy her world. I was moved to tears! But this amazingly gifted man made me laugh through my tears as he created a new perspective and found humour in this horrifying situation without making light of the situation. He's been through so much and still finds the strength, energy, power, courage to get out of bed each day and take care of his now 8 year old daughter, write comedy and perform. The fact that he doesn't feel ashamed to talk about his depression (he's talked about this before in earlier shows and interviews) and grief makes me feel less alone with my depression & anxiety. There are days when I can barely get out of bed, let alone do anything of any value to anyone. Everyone experiences their own struggles. Everyone deals with their sorrows in their on way at their own pace. I will find my own pace and so will you. Because if he can go on after having gone through all that he's been through and still find joy and humour in life after this, I am convinced that there is a way for all of us to do the same in our own way. I have so much respect & admiration for this man and I feel truly inspired by him. Take inspiration from this man! It's chaos, be kind. @balvenieboy #pattonoswalt #annihilation #netflix #comedyspecial #standup #comedy #inspiration #love #hardship #depression #anxiety #nevergiveup
