When you get some sort of back pain or you sprain an ankle, the cause of the injury might be the result of poor proprioception, or the brains awareness of how your body is moving!
.
🔬 Research is beginning to give us a better understanding of how chiropractic care works and it is pretty interesting stuff
.
It seems that in both the case of ankle sprains and back pain, poor functioning of the joints and the nerves that tell the brain 🧠 how that body part is moving make it really difficult for the brain to protect those joints
.
If you don’t have a good unconscious awareness of a body part, it is very difficult to tell the muscles what the precise way to move that joint to keep its alignment and stability .
It would be like wandering down a hall with dark glasses on, you might not be able to react to a toy left on the carpet 👶 in the same way that you might not be able to react and correct how the spine or any other joint is positioned while you move .
With ankle sprains specifically, we know that a precious ankle sprain is the best predictor of a future one because the altered proprioception from the first one makes it hard for the body to react to prevent the next one - Chiropractic and Neuro-Acupuncture can help with this .
🔛The research indicates that part of the benefit of chiropractic care is that it improves proprioception and the body’s internal awareness of how all it’s joints are moving . 💭 We usually just think that it is the old “put the bone back into place” model. Hello 👋🏻 It’s gimpy thickie chickie reporting for practice🏋🏼‍♀️😂😂😩 Uhggg. Crap happens.. haven’t been injured in quite awhile. Luckily, I think it’s not a third degree sprain or anything. Carefully walking and working out non-weight bearing. I was demoing a rope climb for a class and came down on the end of the rope 🤦🏼‍♀️ Fingers crossed I’m back to lifting soon 😐 don’t really have time to not be 😅. Looking forward to seeing @dockees on Friday to work his magic on me. Luckily I’ve got @paleoworks to keep my diet on point while I’m a little powered down in the meantime. Happy hump day! I'm missing my non-injured ankle. #tb to when I could point my toes without hesitation. Form and engagement totally got affected on my left side since the ankle sprain. I am not engaging my left side as much as before. Now I have to make a conscious effort to do so.

📌 Many people struggle with keeping a stable/controlled hip, knee, and ankle/foot when performing activities on one leg. Much of the time, this is due to poor strength and/or coordination of the hip, namely the gluteus medius and maximus muscles
-
📌 The glute wall push exercise is a great way to help increase recruitment of the hips as dynamic stabilizers, which can help with the above issues
-
📌 Pushing the inside knee into a wall/ball reflexively activates the opposite side (stance leg) glutes to help maintain a stable pelvis and trunk. If done poorly, the body will compensate by allowing the trunk to lean away from the wall and the hips to shift closer to the wall, which decreases the load to the glutes of the stance leg

💥 Static stance - Key Points
📌 Keep your knees slightly bent while pushing your hips slightly backwards with your trunk leaned forward
📌 Think about pushing both knees apart and avoid letting your trunk shift away from the wall or your hips move closer to the wall
📌 Avoid letting your knee or foot collapse inward (try to maintain an arch with your foot)
📌 Actively think about squeezing your butt cheeks together and dig your fingers into the side of your outside butt cheek if you have trouble feeling an adequate contraction there
📌 Hold anywhere from 5 seconds to a whole minute or more, depending on your goal

💥 Single Leg Squat - Key Points
📌 Same as above
📌 During the single leg squat, sit your hips backwards while allowing your trunk to lean forward to further increase glute recruitment
📌 Reps, tempo, sets etc will depend on your training goal, but if you are unsure, start with 2-3 sets of 15-20 reps or until failure
📌 Once you can do that, increase the difficulty by squatting lower or adding load such as a dumbbell(s)
