One of my biggest pet peeves with anime is when the opening and/or ending themes are edited in a way that they differ from the traditional intro/first verse/first chorus/outro format.
For example, the anime version of “Rolling Star” adds in a guitar solo that isn’t in the album version and omits the lyrics, “narubeku egao de itai keredo Mamorinuku tame ni wa shikata nai desho”. The opening lyrics, “Yume ni made mita you na sekai de arasoi mo naku heiwa ni kurashitai” aren’t anywhere to be found in the album version, just in the anime version.
BLEACH does something similar with another opening theme, “Shojo S” (SCANDAL). “Tsukiakari no Michishirube” (Stereopony, Darker than Black: Gemini of the Meteor OP), and “One in a Billion” (Wake Up, May’n, Restaurant to Another World OP) are also edited in a way that they’re different than the album version.
