Because I'm way too excited to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi this December, I've decided to take part in @stardusterso 's TLJ Countdown Challenge. Those of you who know me know that I'm a very wordy person, so be prepared for obnoxious, long-winded explanations from me. [TMP Week, Day 1: Fave Padmé Outfit] --This is a really hard one for me as I just adore all of her outfits. I love the outfits we first and last see her in for their beauty and complexity, I love her outfits in Tatooine and the fight on Naboo because they show her in times of contemplation and action as a leader, but I might just have to go with her handmaiden outfit for 3 reasons/scenes.
1. This is the outfit in which we first see her acting the part as handmaiden. Although she is one of many wearing this outfit, we can quickly tell that she in particular is very important.
2. The scene where she cleans R2. I'll be honest in saying I did not realize the cinematic parallel between her, Leia, and Luke in this shot until very recently, but I freaking love it. She has volunteered to pose as a handmaiden and takes on the dirty work of cleaning up a heroic droid--the same droid that will later help her children.
3. This is the moment that especially ties in with this outfit. When Anakin first leaves Tatooine, he is coming to terms with the major changes that will be coming along with this. He's afraid he'll never see his mother again and he feels the true coldness of space--the one place he's always dreamed about. Right now, everything has fallen into uncertainty. And who is here to give him comfort and the literal warmth of a blanket? Padmé Amidala. In her sun-like outfit, she assures him that she will never stop caring for him and proves herself to be, from this moment on, the literal light of his life. I love it and the scene just wouldn't be the same in a different outfit.
What's your favorite outfit of Padmé's in The Phantom Menace?
