This popped up as a FB memory today and Lord is it a good one. It’s been more than a decade since I lost my parents - Mama to a misdiagnosed brain aneurism and my Papa to a broken heart a year later.
After all that time, there still isn’t day when I don’t miss them both or wonder what advice they might give me on when I’m struggling. What I wouldn’t do for just one more day spent around their kitchen table - littered with books, ashtrays and coffee cups.
I know Parker Sims and Emerson Raye Sims would make them both proud - just as they do me every single day. And I greedily wish they had of had more time with their Grandparents to get to know how creative, stubborn, kind-hearted and amazing they both were. My stories just don’t do them justice.
If you’re lucky enough to still have your parents, here’s some unsolicited advice. Don’t rush your time with them. Take another photo - even if you’re hair isn’t perfect. Give them a second or a third hug before leaving. Listen to them retell that story you know by heart. Treasure them and the time you have.
Happy Friday from me and my favorite turkeys!
