Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia & Transphobia - Australia (https://www.facebook.com/IDAHOBITaus/) @may17idahot
Here at @UOW , the student group Allsorts Queer Collective is organising a #BBQ and #bakesale at Juggler Lawn at lunch time today (near the kangaroo statues, close to @UOWUniBar ). Why not join them for a bite and celebrate the university's first dedicated all-gender bathrooms in Building 25 Level 1. Pictured is the #DIYrainbow outside the library painted by #UOWAllyNetwork (http://staff.uow.edu.au/eed/allynetwork/index.html)
When progress is to be celebrated without reservation, the progress-yet-to-cover requires support and action from every conscientious individual. We don't need to look far to see that Marriage Equality @amequality has yet to arrive in Down Under. Across the Pacific at the moment, there is the inhumane and homophobic violence reported from Russian republic of #Chechnya ( @Amnesty International Australia: https://www.amnesty.org.au/act-now/iar-825-chechnya-abductions/). Doctors are in the more privileged position in society but still they are not immune from discrimination on the basis of sexual preference or sexual identity. Doctors and medical students should join hands with wider society to work towards a more inclsuive and safer society, where everyone can be the person they want to be.
Will the Australian Government, medical schools, medical student societies and us as inidividuals respond to the @youramsa Australian Medical Students' Association's call to action?
