Band work... so underrated and under used by many including myself if I’m honest, a great way to activate underused muscles and also aid recovery of injured muscles providing a light resistance and mobility element to those who’ve been out for a while. Demonstrated here by @paul_kocina .

Coming back off a solid week of all you can eat crispy bacon and sausage patties and 7 days of lounging by the pool and having the ultimate rest week. Kinda chubby, kinda sunburnt, kinda don’t care 🙈 Iv now got all the time in the world to put as much or as little effort into my training as I want to now there’s no excuses, if I want to look better for summer then I will... if I can’t be arsed then I shall be equally as happy knowing I’m not a fat mess in a spiral of depression (which is also ok if that’s your thing and your happy with it) like some other injured guys seem to do,and that’s what it comes down to, if you want to jack yourself up and be the best version of yourself and compete then fuck I admire the dedication that takes and hats off to all those that do it, for me it’s about routine and keeping just fit enough for it to A) keep me happy and B) keep me healthy and living that bit longer. Everyone’s got to find there groove and what works for them and roll with it. Pigeon looking chest still present but it shifts good weight for a natural guy with no legs SO 🤷🏻‍♂️ body fat at 17% before holiday so I shall slowly take that off while keeping the protein intake high to try and carry on that weight loss strength gain balance thing I had going on before I took off this last week. Interesting day for me and I thought I’d pass on some advice for you amputees. If you get offered to take part in a study of the long term affects of injury DO IT. Today I had numerous scans and tests done on my body both external and internal, and I learned the following. I always worried how my organs would be now I don’t walk or run and my internal fat, turns out they are tip top condition especially my lungs which were the things keeping me in a coma originally due to the injury which was surprising. My back is also in good condition which again I didn’t expect. Body fat % from the dexa scan measured it at 17% which I was happy with as Iv got a good few months to shift another 5/6%. The worrying highlight from today is my hips (seen in the yellow graph pic) they are taking abnormal wear due to my posture with the prosthetics, in fact they are actually degrading, my left below knee is also taking abnormal pressure and is compressing more than normal and slanting to the left. Ones to watch in the coming years. My point here.... it’s not just initial injury we need to be worrying about, the long term affects can and will cause even more problems. My advice? Go get a dexa scan and get checked out.... could save you a lot of hassle in the future and give you a chance to prolong future injury and degradation of bones and joints. Look after yourselves. Ben

6 years ago today I stepped on 5kg of pressure plated home made explosive.
The memories never go, the legs still haven’t grown back but you know what it’s ok 👌🏻 Just don’t be a little bitch when things go wrong and get on with it and life becomes so much easier 👊🏻 No bitterness, no regrets and wouldn’t change a thing.

Fat mass is the result of a balance between fat oxidation (“burning” fat) and fat storage while muscle mass is the result of a balance between protein breakdown and protein synthesis.
.
All of these four processes occur in your body and it is the BALANCE between them which is important. Increasing fat oxidation may, for example, not lead to fat loss if fat storage also increases (this happens in LCHF diets). Your fat balance is, however, ultimately determined by if you are in a caloric deficit or not.
.
Your protein balance, while being negatively affected by a caloric deficit, is not completely determined from your energy balance. Particularly in untrained individuals or individuals with a high body fat percentage, there have been studies showing that, during a caloric deficit, lean muscle mass can increase as fat mass decreases if protein consumption is high enough!
.
In addition to this, caloric deficits with high protein levels also caused significantly higher strength gains compared to controls! Similar increases in lean body mass have been seen in athletes, if the caloric deficit isn’t too big.
.
It thus seems that the more well trained you are, the harder it is to build muscle and lose fat at the same time, explaining why many bodybuilders find doing cycles of “bulking” and “cutting” are more effective for reaching optimal body composition.
