I absolutely am so tired of cones. I've already broken 5. You'd think they'd learn.
The final decision was made yesterday to amputate 3/4 of Linus' tail. After 3 weeks of home healing with vet advice & 3 weeks of medical healing, the wound in his tail became resistant to antibiotics. He was in a lot of pain, restless, shakey, on a lot of medication, and the tissue was so damaged it became necrotic. His tail developed an odor overnight & by the morning he was showing other signs of sepsis. They only planned to remove a small portion of the tail where the infection was evident, but upon my reasoning (to which the vet agreed without hesitation) I asked to amputate the better part of his tail. My concerns were only his spine & his health, although they cosmetically made it into a cute little weimaraner tail. The vet came in on his day off to perform the surgery & while they initially told me I wouldn't get him back for 36hrs, I was able to take him home the same day. I cannot tell you the relief I felt to get him back, and to see that within a few hours after the anesthesia wore off I had my lively boy back. He hadn't been himself in weeks. He doesn't care its gone, he didn't care about his tail before it became infected. I'm blessed the universe put me in touch with such an amazing veterinary team, they absolutely were at my fingertips through the whole thing. I couldn't be happier to just have my happy puppy back. .
