Week 1 day 3 massing. After getting some questions answered by my coach, ones I should’ve asked a while ago... 🤷🏼‍♂️, I’m back on track with my days. This is my first pull day of the week. Can you even believe @revivestronger took into consideration my lower back fatigue when doing my programming!?! Top fucking notch. I’m learning so much from him. Plus going to @macnutrition to become a certified nutritionist, I’m just learning so much everyday.

Week 1 day 2 of my first massing phase with @revivestronger stronger. Squats went well. Warmed up more. Everything felt solid. Not using much weight at the moment but, I’m not training as a power lifter right now. I have to remember that.

Getting really excited to pick up some steam and volume in the coming weeks. My coach @revivestronger said something about a 15 week massing phase... I could’ve heard it wrong but, damn!!! Let the gains begin.

Even though I’ve been training for 20 years, I still feel like I have a ton more muscle I can put onto my frame. I’ve never really trained specifically for hypertrophic results. Even during my prep I was still training very heavy (85-95% of 1RM). In fact, I hit a PR ON Squats during prep. Thanks to proper phasic structure by my coach, I’m healthier then I’ve been in a long time and ready to get after it.

Week 3 Day 1. I have lost a lot of confidence in my squat of the last year of repeatedly aggravating my SI JOINT. After consulting with my coach and team @revivestronger, I have been assured my squat looks good and that I need to push more weight. Of course my coach tempered that with, when I am more comfortable.

My stiff legged deadlifts after only 2 sets and really controlling the negative, have my hammies TORCHED 🔥. Really loving this movement again.

My glute bridges need to be better. I’m not full extending. Although I feel it, I would most likely get more out of it if I lighten up and focus on a better extension.

Week 2 training sessions 5&6 combine.
Good week of training despite another aggravation in my lower back. Thankfully, it’s nothing major and when I get my temp up, it melts away. My coach and team @revivestronger couldn’t see anything wrong with my squat which is good. So, I must not be getting warm enjoy before I hit squats and or, I’m missing something during warm up. I will figure this out and continue to hammer. Minor set back do suck but, it will make the victory, THAT MUCH SWEETER.

Day 3 week 1 “primer” phase. Nothing ground breaking here but, to me, squatting pain free is UUUgghhee!!! It’s only 225lbs, high bar, belted for 6 reps but, no pain. It’s a big deal for me. Also, stiff legged deadlifts were snappy and again, no pain or tightness in my back whatsoever. I would post a video of my glute bridges but, it’s too sexy. 🤓Thank you couch stretch. Thank you. Up until I found Trev @smashwerx and @moveu_official , I thought I was supposed to just deal with pains of being an older lifter that hasn’t always had the best practices in regards to the way I moved Weight.

I dig the concept that you can self heal most of the pains you endure. It’s empowering to say the least. Now, when I tweek something or “pull” a muscle, I don’t panic. I asses and try stuff until I feel improvement. Then, I hammer it.

It’s hard to NOT compare yourself to others. You seen other people doing very amazing things and, you want to be part of it. Me personally, I compare myself to where I’ve been. That’s even harder. To look back and see things you’ve done but, can’t currently do. It’s one day at a time and a slow build. As I read somewhere, “don’t worry about building the perfect you. That’s overwhelming. Worry about laying each brick as perfectly as you can.” I think I heard that from @willsmith honestly.

My training session was done in less then 40 minutes. I honestly didn’t know what to do with my free time. My coach is scaling me back to prime me for another growth phase.

Did you know your body can form almost a resistance to putting on lean tissue after long bouts of training? It’s called anabolic resistance. I’ll be honest, I’m not super familiar with the term or definition but, breaks and deloads are very good for you to take from weight training.

Our bodies are super adaptive. Sometimes taking a “primer” or, Re-sensitizing period is great to help your body build to the next level. I’m currently learning more about this through @rpdrmike and the folks over @rpstrength. Fascinating stuff!

Ending up the weekend with a light training session. Was very nervous about deadlifts today even though they are extremely light (in regards to where I have been in the past). Lower back held up and was in zero pain by the time I started lifting. Worked with light front squats as well to relearn the skill before I start amassing any weight. Pausing at the bottom to make sure core stays stable and gain confidence in the movement. Then some butt stuff and other hypertrophy. My boot is growing. And I’m happy about that. Back to back squatting again after about 2 months off due to re-aggravating my mangled SI JOINT. Nothing fancy or heavy here. This is my top set at 265lbs. Here’s what I’m doing to rehab my squat form to hopefully make a comeback with this lift and beat my all time PR of 455lbs.

1️⃣ make sure I’m warmed up and have no distractions while I’m squatting so I can focus on the lift it’s self.
#
2️⃣ going much lighter. I set my max at 315lbs. It really sucks to cut the weight I’m used to moving but, it sucks way more to plan my day around being in constant pain.
#
3️⃣ not using my stretch shorting reflex at the bottom to get out of the hole. I tend to pitch forward when I use this excessively. This leads me to fighting the weight back into position and aggravating my SI JOINT.
#
4️⃣ focusing much more on my set up and keeping my thoracic spine as tight and as upright as I can.
#
5️⃣ doing my best not to get down on myself about not moving as much as the people around me.
#
It’s hard to swallow your pride and admit something in your life needs more work. Both in and out of the gym. I have miles to go before I’m where I desire to be in both areas but, the work will be worth it and I do enjoy the process more and more.

Am squat and Deadlift training. 7/11/18

1️⃣ squats- these were supposed to be singles at 325lbs. I felt good so rather then go to a 9x1, I went 3,2,2,2. All felt good. Squat is starting to groove it’s way back. Only thing I didn’t like was my unracks.

2️⃣Deficit deadlifts- again supposed to be a 9x1. I did a 3x3. 285lbs from a 4” deficit. Felt solid. Hips look slow but, I’m kind of taller. So, it could just be they look awkward bc I am. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I’ll do a pull Am with any luck and a PUSH PM. I will however probably start both off with chest.

🎥These are just some highlights from this 8 week mesocycle. Which I will be closing out in 2 more weeks. It’s my first with team @team3dmj being coach by @3dmjcoach . I haven’t been disappointed.

1️⃣- 355lbs moving very well and the avengers make a little appearance as well. 😊

2️⃣- 325lbs moving decent on squats and, it was a special kind of day bc I got to train and Get coached by my best bud (bae) @zachkerchen 👬

3️⃣- again, nothing to write home about but, the critiques bae gives me in person made a difference and it’s always nice when someone you trust checks your form.

4️⃣ first set of 4x7 with 300lbs. I was really happy here not bc of the weight but, bc I forgot my knee sleeves and just did it anyways. I didn’t fall apart and these felt very good.

5️⃣ last set of 300x7. I could argue, they moved better here. But, I’d just be arguing with myself. 🤓👉🏻👈🏻🤓

6️⃣- bench 197.5lbs for 7. This is my last set on the day. Again, the weight isn’t much but, it moved decent and I didn’t break 😂

Some shots from my first bodybuilding show. It was a incredible experience and I’m glad I decided to compete with the #ufe . @ufeshows . Shawn Jennings @ufeusa and his crew did a fantastic job running the event and, I was elated to be randomly selected for a drug test. I was very happy to see that they stick to their word and do their best to level the playing field.

🤔 posing well is super important. You work very hard to have a great physique but, if you can’t show case it, it doesn’t matter.

❌ I probably put, 2 hours in total to learning to pose. I had a great helper in my best friend @zachkerchen but, we just didn’t have enough time to prepare bc I didn’t give him any. I did however get a few excellent tips from @chris_bodybuilding.ufepro that made a large difference and from several of the guys back stage. It was really awesome environment.

Might be hard to see here because they are practically nonexistent but, my vastus medialis (the quad muscle on the inner thigh located right above the knee cap) is tiny compared to my rectus femoris (the part of the quad that is the upper, outer portion). I believe this to be bc I’ve rarely target it through any leg exercises. I just squat. A lot. With a normal stance. However, I feel I hit it the most when I have a slight rotation with my knees pointed away from each other on the leg extensions. So, this next meso, I will do more targeting of this area.
