“I shall be telling this with a sigh⠀
Somewhere ages and ages hence:⠀
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—⠀
I took the one less traveled by,⠀
And that has made all the difference.”
Robert Frost

"They seem tentative and awkward at first, then in a hastening host a whole brief army falls, white militia paratrooping out of the close sky over various textures, making them one. Snow is white and gray, part and whole, infinitely various yet infinitely repetitious, soft and hard, frozen and melting, a creaking underfoot and a soundlessness. But first of all it is the reversion of many into one. It is substance, almost the idea of substance, that turns grass, driveway, hayfield, old garden, log pile, Saab, watering trough, collapsed barn, and stonewall into the one white." Donald Hall
from Seasons at Eagle Pond

Strange times to be alive..

"Snow falling and night falling fast, oh, fast
In a field I looked into going past,
And the ground almost covered smooth in snow,
But a few weeds and stubble showing through.
The woods around it have it-- it is theirs.
All animals are smothered in their lairs.
I am too absent-spirited to count;
The loneliness includes me unawares.
And lonely as it is, that loneliness
Will be more lonely ere it will be less--
A blanker whiteness of benighted snow
With no expression, nothing to express.

They cannot scare me with their empty spaces
Between stars-- on stars where no human race is
I have it in me so much nearer home
To scare myself with my own desert places."

Music has a great Power,
people have the Power,
WE ALL still have great power.
We just have to use it!
"People have the Power." “ (...) Where there were deserts
I saw fountains
Like cream the waters rise
And we strolled there together
With none to laugh or criticize
And the leopard
And the lamb
Lay together truly bound
I was hoping in my hoping
To recall what I had found
I was dreaming in my dreaming
God knows a purer view
As I surrender to my sleeping
I commit my dream to you
The power to dream to rule
To wrestle the world from fools
It' s decreed the people rule
It' s decreed the people rule
I believe everything we dream
Can come to pass through our union
We can turn the world around
We can turn the earth' s revolution
We have the power
People have the power.”

Know the feeling? Many of us read "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" in high school English class -- Bierce was a great writer of short stories, poetry and journalism, despite not gaining the infamy of Edgar Allen Poe, who he is often compared to. Known for his satirical wit and sardonic view of human nature, he earned the nickname "Bitter Bierce" and was also called "the wickedest man in San Francisco" for his damning observations on the personalities and events of the day. Lesson learned: Sometimes you tell it like it is.

A lovely book of Best Beloved Poems sits on my nightstand in our Williamsburg home. A gentle reminder to stop. Breathe. Pause. Reflect. I open the book and will the Universe to select what I am to read each morning.
Today the message was clear. And well taken. "If I had known...." #poetry #classics #marycarolyndavies #beloved #meditation #inspire #inspiration #professionalspeaker #speaker #writer #author #thoughts #americanpoetry #solitude #wordsofwisdom #wordsofinspiration

Life's Trades by Emily Dickinson #AmericanPoetry from the selected poems of Emily Dickinson. They're quite catchy, I've read so many this week

“Home is so sad.
It stays as it was left,
Shaped to the comfort of the last to go
As if to win them back.
Instead, bereft
Of anyone to please,
it withers so,
Having no heart to put aside the theft
And turn again to what it started as,
A joyous shot at how things ought to be,
Long fallen wide.
You can see how it was:
Look at the pictures and the cutlery.
The music in the piano stool. That vase.”
