“I feel strongly that I have a responsibility to all the sources that I am: to all past and future ancestors, to my home country, to all places that I touch down on and that are myself, to all voices, all women, all of my tribe, all people, all earth, and beyond that to all beginnings and endings. In a strange kind of sense [writing] frees me to believe in myself, to be able to speak, to have voice, because I have to; it is my survival.” #joyharjo #writingprocess #nativeamericanpoet #nativeamericanpoetry #americanpoetry #fictionwriting #poem #poet #poetry #poetsofinstagram #spokenword #author #literature #creativewriting #nativepeople #humanrights #aboriginal #tribe #indigenous #myth #legend #believe #legit

6/19/18: I have skin. Miles and miles of skin on my body. Each and every part with a scar that was once a memory. I had moments worth holding on to my whole life that were beaten out of me. I am a victim of my motherland's every undeniable atrocity and i question. I question how can i face the reality when all i was ever taught was to be afraid? -FM 🥀✨

6/20/18: "A touch of death" I am in a dark room. I can see my memories, my prized possessions. My past & present. I can see myself making the same mistake again and again by letting YOU enter my life like despair entering in the room of hope with a smirk.
I know this is wrong but somehow i'm not capable to drain your foreign rule out of myself, to make your sinful hands stop controlling my shattered heart with strings so powerful that squeeze my brain hopeless to take action.
And I can hear the rain drown the earth and the flower petals swooned with the cold breeze whispering mortal death to my ears while the stars in the sky still find that little hope left in me from deep within the cracks of my broken soul & make me believe that I can't play this role again, I can't die like this everyday, That i have a scar of hope in me to struck this black night in my life & to wakeup from this mortal death. -FM🥀✨

7/22/18: "Instead of being a cage as always, collecting all those insecurities and opinions of others inside, for once try to be the key and unlock all those trapped fingers that are pointed towards you and buried under your skin, for once let your voice be heard, echoing in the darkest of caves named despair. For once drown away that contagious laugh from within and be free, for once let hope isolate the darkness in your heart, be the answer to all the questions you couldn't understand, dive into the cauldron of myths you believe in and for once just be who you are" -FM 🥀✨

6/27/18: You'll miss me when she won't believe your lies
When she won't look into your eyes as if you hold the whole world behind them
When she won't hold your hand just to trace back all the lines
When she won't prefer drowning in the depth of your voice
When thoughts of you wont circle her mind throughout the day
When she won't walk on the edge just to see you smile
When she wont slowly drift of into sleep with you in her mind
When she won't crave for you to hold her tight
When her eyes wont light up whenever she hears your name
When she won't wish for you everytime she sees a shooting star
When she wont have a single place in her body where there's only you
You'll miss me when you realise i'm no longer around. -FM 🥀✨

7/1/18: I feel like i'm spring, my flowers bloom and people fall in love with me, just like once you did, we spent 3 months together and then it all happened again this year, you kept on going away as all my flowers were rotten and leaves shredded. You didn't know what to do, well baby that's because you fell in love with my words not the feelings in them, my eyes not the cries buried in them, my face not my scarred soul. You didn't accept the glorious mess i was, my fluster, the pain that attracts people. Now i wont be a stranger to the sky and i wont endure the same cycle again. People will love my tragic scars and not my delicate petals, my threatening laughter and not my compromised smiles, people will fall in love with my roots instead of my flowers. -FM 🥀✨

19/7/18: Wounds healed // Scars didn't
Contact deleted // Messages didn't
Bodies deattached // Souls didn't
Dreams shattered // Hopes didn't
Screams silenced // Pain didn't
You left // Your shadows didn't -FM 🥀✨

If you were coming in the Fall,
I'd brush the Summer by
With half a smile, and half a spurn,
As Housewives do, a Fly. .

I many times thought peace had come,
When peace was far away;
As wrecked men deem they sight the land
At centre of the sea,
And struggle slacker, but to prove,
As hopelessly as I,
How many the fictitious shores
Before the harbor lie. --- Emily Dickinson (and me)

Bought this #retiredlibrarybook which is one of my favorites. The book had come away from the binding, so I fixed it with #washitape I think sometimes fixing something phenomenally improves on it. #exlibrary #penguinbooks #poetry #denverlibrary #phoebewahl #exlibrarybooks #oldlibrarybooks #ritadove #americanpoetry #penguinclothboundclassics
