It's Strawberry 🍓 Days in PG, but I'm all about the raspberries. Some people can't get passed the seeds. I feel sorry for those people.
Raspberries and blackberries bring back so many fond memories. Growing up in Northern Washington, we had blackberries growing wild EVERYWHERE. This is not an over exaggeration. My folks live on 10 acres, and there are literally acres of wild blackberry bushes that bloom every year. Sometimes they are hard to reach because they are prickly just like a rose bush, but they are so more than worth it. Raspberries too. Every summer when I'd visit my Grandma Passey in Roy, one of our favorite things to do was go get a Raspberry Shake - especially when we were in Bear Lake. A fresh raspberry shake is hard to beat. So when either are in season, I buy them every week. .
This week I picked some up during my weekly trip to #WholeFoods. 😍 I didn't go just for the berries, but when I saw they were 2 - 6 oz baskets for $3, it was a #nobrainer.
I 💘 to add them to my protein shakes at night (vanilla base) along with a little vanilla extract, Stevia, and white chocolate sugar free pudding to recreate the shakes Grandma and I used to have. They taste super yummy, and while they're not exactly like what I remember, I can pretend. 😉I mean it is protein after all - not thick ice-cream based.
In the mornings I like to changes things up too. Like this breakfast. After a hard workout (today was legs) I like to follow it with a hearty breakfast. I made cream of rice adding a little almond extract, sea salt, Stevia, and cashew milk. Once done, I stirred in an additional egg white and cooked again. I topped it off with fresh raspberries (today's macros allowed for 50g), and a small pinch of shredded coconut. Ideally I'd use unsweetened, but I didn't have any. So, my "pinch" of coconut was extra small. I then drizzled with a little coconut stevia from NOW Foods and sugar-free maple syrup. Since I only added one egg white, my protein was low, so I fried another 5 egg whites to the side.
Notice fats were low. I save my fats for later in the day. After my workout I want the carbs to pull the protein in as quickly as possible....
