"All? NO, ALL!" Flashback Friday to 20 years ago, with these guys. ALL, that's 3/4 of the Descendents with a different lead singer. From left to right, Stephen Egerton, me, Bill Stevenson, Karl Alvarez and Chad Price. This was taken by my friend King Dave Botsford at the 1998 Warped Tour in Orlando, FL., where not even an hour and a half before this picture was taken, I wound up singing a Black Flag song with an early incarnation of Punk Rock Karaoke, and that's where I first met Karl Alvarez backstage. I told him he was like a god to me, and he replied, "Gods don't have cable bills they have to pay." I wound up seeing Marky Ramone backstage before I went on, his band the Intruders played and I thought they were good and I told him that. After I got done singing, he gave me the big nod as if he liked what he saw, and I thought that was cool, never mind Eric Melvin from NOFX comparing me to Henry Rollins after singing "Nervous Breakdown". Ironically enough, the two men surrounding me would go on to play the same song I sang onstage 18 years after this picture in this little ol' band called FLAG along with the song's original performers Keith Morris and Chuck Dukowski. Anyone ever heard of them?
Also, as much as I like watching the Descendents play, I wouldn't mind watching another ALL concert again. Oh, and BTW, I still have my signed Bonus Cup that's sitting in the left hand of this picture. Next trip to the storage unit, I'll dig it up.
