Ready for a confession? I used to lie. Never in a harmful way, but in an 'I don't want to look stupid for not knowing this' way. "Oh yeah, totally know what you're talking about" 😳 #ugh
Because of Confession #2... I let a lot of people frequently make me feel stupid because of things I didn't know yet. 😑
Catch that? Things I didn't know YET.
It took me way too long to realize that it's OKAY to not know, ESPECIALLY if you having a willingness to learn. I've always been eager to learn, but when that's diminished by people that have fun making fun of you? It's hard to "admit defeat". So I giggled along, pretended I knew, or oh my gracious, thanked my good Lord for Google 😂
In 2017 I had a conversation with a girlfriend after a long weekend of sun and girlfriends that I had to mentally unpack for a while ...and she said something to the effect of "why are you taking on the roll of the dumb friend when you're not dumb?" I was admittedly taken aback (and what happened following this conversation was poetic to say the least), but she was right. I'd allowed myself to get made fun of in a "lighthearted way" for too long. It just felt easier, I guess. Hurtful. But easier.
I'm smart. I'm savvy. I'm skilled. I'm talented. I'm strong. I'm funny. I'm caring. I'm teachable. I'm willing. I'm. Right. Here.
Girls. Guys too (All 3 of you that follow me 😂). Don't let other people decide how smart you are. If you're interested in learning, learn. If you're being hurt by people using you for lazy humor, move on! You're better than that.
Learn everything you can. Or at least everything you WANT to learn. And don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
IN THE AGE OF INFORMATION, IGNORANCE IS A CHOICE.
