😱”WHAT ARE YOU DOING? GET YOUR HANDS OUT OF YOUR POCKETS! PUT YOUR HANDS UP!” A border patrol agent pointing his rifle and screaming at me along with the other undocumented immigrants making their way through the desert to the US border. Just a small part of Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s conceptual #virtualreality installation CARNE y ARENA (Virtually present, Physically invisible) at @lacma, he won a special #AcademyAward for it and now I know why. It’s powerful, intense, poignant and upsetting. I feel extremely lucky to have been able to experience it. Heartbreaking to know that the piece is based on true accounts, but I can only imagine how many more terrible things happen 😢 #AlejandroGonzálezIñárritu#CarneyArena#LACMA#SoldOut#Oscar#VR 🙏
Alejandro González Iñárritu: "When there are no words available to express ideas or feelings or situations or plots…when you lack of that tool narratively, you have to really get to the bottom with images, and that’s really a beautiful, essential exercise for filmmakers…That’s what Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin did…That’s why they were great filmmakers."
