Just a short note to let you know Kelly had his follow up PET scan and we got the results back yesterday. His PET scan shows no signs of residual cancer, everything looks normal again. That means healing time and checkups every three months for two years. He will still be off work until at least January. The recovery time is a slow process. Having said that it is recovery time and we can definitely cope with that. Thank you to our beautiful family and wonderful friends both near and far. Thank you to all the doctors and nurses and everyone who work at the Cross Cancer Institute - you really are the best. Thank you all for your love and support throughout this time. We appreciate you all. We are ready to ride on in life together Stronger in mind and in spirit. Are you all ready to ride 2019????? Let’s do it. Together we can make a change - a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families. Let’s find a cure. #albertaride #albertacancer #ride2019 #showthellove #crosscancerinstitute #crosscancer50th

One last time - with feeling πŸ’•

After three years, countless kilometres, and endless laughter I made the (difficult) decision to close this chapter and retire the Linnea’s Legion jersey. So we assembled on this frosty fall day for one last ride. So touched to share this journey with the wonderful band of misfits.
.
.
Together we raised more than $250,000 for women facing cancer in Alberta, a sum that I’m immensely proud of. We created hope for future patients, and we created a beautiful legacy for a beautiful soul. Forever loved. πŸ•Šβ€οΈ

The advocacy will continue and the riding will continue, but the project will change. What does that entail? Stay tuned!

The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer got cancelled because of smoke. A good call for the safety of the riders. It raised over 8 million dollars!

Like most riders, I was told that it was cancelled at the lunch stop, 75km in. I'm going to make up the difference this September, with a 150km ride in a day.
Thanks for everyone that helped with fundraising! I'm already signed up for 2019.

THANK YOU to our friends at the @mustardseedyyc for helping us pay it forward to Albertans in need of a hot meal. πŸ’›

After the heartbreaking cancellation of the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer (due to poor air quality caused by smoke), our amazing friends here graciously received a donation of over 500 lbs of beef brisket. πŸ‘πŸ»

The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer was cancelled about an hour into the race on Saturday due to the poor air quality from the smoke blowing in from the wildfires in BC.
The 2-day race involved thousands of people including 1,900 riders along with volunteers and medical staff.
It was a sad day for many, but there was a blessing in disguise that came out of the cancellation. πŸ—πŸŽπŸ₯–
Over 500 lbs (227) kg of meat, other food and drinks for the event were donated to our Shelter after the cancellation. What an incredible gift to our guests. The team at our Shelter are seen in the photo unloading the truck. A big thanks to the race organizers, Alberta Ride and the race sponsor, Enbridge, for the amazing gift of food. We are blessed and so thankful!!

Even though the ride was cancelled I felt the need to get out there today. I put in a solid 100km ride and represented the Keyera Kares team. The 14 of us raised over $95,000!

Super bummed our weekend was cut short! The Ride to Conquer Cancer was cancelled after 75km due to poor air quality. I am beyond proud of our team and everyone who helped raise $8.12 million for cancer research and so honoured to be part of such an amazing group of riders. Thank you to all my friends and family for your support in helping me reach my fundraising goal. Can’t wait for next year! #thestormyhuntsmen #albertaride #rtcc18 #ridetoconquercancer #fuckcancer #safetyfirst #beersandbigrears #bunchofbeauts #epicteam #allthefeels πŸ’ͺ🏽🚲

Alberta Ride to conquer cancer 2018 benefiting Alberta Cancer Foundation. We successfully raised $8.12 million to fight cancer, aid in research, help families dealing with cancer. Though the ride was cut short due to poor air quality from forest fire, it was still a very successful fundraising. My gratitude goes to the following companies and individuals that sponsored my ride-
Ella Mae Energy Services, Mike & Nonye Opara, Thien Trinh, Jordan, Blauvelt, Emem Madu, Austin Okoye( Osondu Agwuike) Fred Johannesen, Von Achebe, Veronica McRae, Jerry Sinn (BDO Canada), Gail Dione family, JOHN Igbokwe, Anthony Anyadiegwu, Bilal Rizvi Professional Corporation , Tracey Neil, Jude Udedibia, Dan Reid, Andy Dinh, and Dale and Theresa Lapointe for providing logistics support. #AlbertaRide #TheRideAb #ridetoconquercancer2018 #ridetoconquercancer

Well, we didn’t finish the 225km ride to conquer cancer as planned. The smoke from the wildfires in BC was too thick and it was too hazardous for us to continue riding part way through day one. *
*
I have some things to say though, I hope you’ll read this and understand the significance of it. *
*
Firstly, I want to thank @kemper_temper for inviting me on a group ride last summer. You my friend, are a beautiful bright light for so many people and I am incredibly blessed to have you in my life. I know I speak for everyone who knows you when I say I’m proud of you and everything you have done in honour of your beloved Linnea. It is clear she was an incredible human also, and I’m sorry I never had the chance to meet her in human form, though she lives on in many ways through all of us because of how many lives she, and you, have changed. I know this ride meant a lot to you, and I hope 🀞 if you can take at least one thing away from this, it’s that you have saved me too, many times. Thank you. πŸ™β˜ΊοΈ *

To the people at @albertaride who spent thousands of hours organizing this event, thank you. The work you did is awe-inspiring. Everything from the marketing, logistics, safety, volunteer coordination - very little, if anything at all, was overlooked, and I hope you are all proud of yourselves too. Thank you for everything, including the work you did when the smoke was just too much and you had to make what was surely a difficult and heartbreaking call. *

To my teammates @linneas_legion I cannot express enough how much I love each and every single one of you. You are an incredible group of humans and this season of training with you all has been an honour and a privilege. I’m thankful for your friendship and the community we share. I’m thankful for the nerds who know all the birds, trees, and other creatures we ride past. I’m thankful for the moms in our group who took care of all of us. I’m thankful for the bossy people in our group who kept us in line. I’m thankful for the humble people who reminded me to be so as well. Thank you, to each and every one of you for letting me be a part of your family. To our co-captains @mee8784 @fizzbea and Seb thank you! ❀️❀️

Disappointing end to #albertaride #rtcc #therideab as it was canceled due to smoke, still managed to get in 85k thanks again to everyone who donated #teamairsprint #airsprintprivateaviation

It's not how it was suppose to unfold but we turned a negative into a positive. The smoke was thick and the climbs were steady but I am very proud of everyone's effort out there for the @albertaride
This ride raised $8.6 million dollars!! That is truly an incredible feat! From all 1,800 + riders who participated and hose who supported them, Congrats!!!! Personally this was the longest single road ride I've done and managed to do it with decent average speed.

Well most certainly not the weekend we had hoped for. Unfortunately due to the air quality from all the smoke, the ride was cancelled just a few hours after we started. It didnt seem that bad but the more west we got the thicker the air became. Speaking from a relatively healthy perspective, even we were feeling our lungs get tight. I cant imagine what it felt like for someone with underlying health issues riding. We were pulled at the 75km mark and told to wait for a shuttle back to calgary. Feeling dissapointed and discouraged, we went against advisory and rode an extra 25km.
We're so grateful to have friends and family support us andhelp us raise funds for something we are truely passionate about. From the bottom of our hearts, thank youπŸ’•
Sincerely,
The Neil Youngs

It was fun while it lasted!
But, due to the devastating wildfires in BC and the smoke cover, the ride was cancelled around the 40km mark. Disappointed, but so absolutely floored that 1,803 participants raised over $8,000,000 this year!! Fantastic!
Thank you to everyone for your donations and support, to my incredible sister @lizzy_lerner for agreeing to do this crazy thang with me, and to the amazing crew and volunteers of @albertaride. Such a wonderful event. #albertaridetoconquercancer #albertaride
