Asteya ✨When the idea of practicing Asteya arises, (the Yama known as “non-stealing”), many think they don’t have to worry about this because they are not shoplifting at the mall. Learn to recognize the subtle and less obvious applications of Asteya in all areas of your life, on and off the mat. We steal when we don’t have the means to purchase, the capability to produce (as in ideas or copy written materials), or when we have the belief that we could not otherwise gain or possess what is desired by honest, organic means. We steal when we feel a lack or a void and are desperate and impatient to fill it - whether that void is physical or emotional. •
Infringing upon Asteya encompasses everything from the simple swiping of a pair of leggings to borrowing someone’s concept, as well as the jealousy-driven drive to dress, pose, or act like someone else without being honest about your covert desire. How about swiping an Instagram picture as your own? 🙈 This all lacks integrity and qualifies as stealing. Learn how to be authentic, to live organically, and to have self-control not to take from others (or express it as sharing by giving credit to the source). In such a monkey-minded, social media crazed and photoshopped world, be the change.
