When Georgina found out she was HIV positive, one of her first thoughts was that she should get all of her children tested immediately. “I’m delighted to say that they are all healthy”, she reports. Her husband is a different story, however. “Despite his deteriorating health, he consistently refuses to get tested or take advantage of FOCCAD’s testing and counselling services”, she goes on, adding that she’s almost certain that he was the source of her infection. “There was a long period during which we spent time apart, and I found indications that he had not been faithful during this time", she says with sadness. Until recently, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (@EGPAF) was supporting six different community-based organisations (CBOs) across Malawi, including FOCCAD, that work on multiple issues connected with HIV/AIDS. Without FOCCAD’s social and financial support, Georgina would have found it difficult to obtain the medical services she needed and stay positive throughout her treatment. Meanwhile, with EGPAF’s help, FOCCAD and the other CBOs have been able to scale such services. My brief for this assignment was to provide these CBOs with powerful images that they could use to power their own #comms campaigns once EGPAF’s funding period came to an end.
