The Employment Equity Act is a federal law that requires federally regulated organizations and businesses to provide equal employment opportunities to four designated groups:

4️⃣members of visible minorities (black, South Asian, Chinese, Filipino, Latin American, Arab, Southeast Asian, West Asian, Korean and Japanese)
We as Nigerians fall within the visible minority group. In order to provide a more balanced representation of qualified designation persons as required by the The Employment Equity Act, some companies have setup The Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Program, this means that candidates within the designated groups mentioned above who demonstrate they are among the most qualified for a position are given preference at the time of appointment.
So when you are applying for a job online, always opt in to fill in your designation (black) as it is optional most of the time. You never know, you might be getting that dream job by taking this small step.
