Although small in size, the #crestedbarbet is aggressive towards other #birdspecies in their territory, and will chase off both nest competitors such as other #barbets and other #birds such as doves and thrushes. #birdlife #birdsofinstagram #birdphotography #birding #africanbirds

BLACK -HEADED WEAVER
A large family of weavers found throughout most Sub -Saharan Africa. They are noted for the Construction of complex nests woven from grass.
They are gregarious, highly social, and very noisy birds. They feed in large flocks, sometimes mixed with other species of weavers ,Starlings and etc.
The males are polygamous, mating with several famales. After constructing a nest, the male hangs beneath and displays singing and flapping. If a famale accepts his invitation and moves in he begins building another nest to attract another female. A successful male may attract four or five famales. A famele lays two eggs after mating and hatch in 12 -13 days.

The Cape robin-chat (Cossypha caffra) is a small passerine bird of the Old World flycatcher family Muscicapidae. It has a disjunct range from South Sudan to South Africa. This locally familiar and confiding species has colonised and benefited from a range of man-altered habitats, including city suburbs and farmstead woodlots.

It is omnivorous and will take fruit, seeds, and insects and small frogs and lizards.

It normally nests from June to November in the Western Cape and August to January elsewhere, but may nest at any time of the year. Monogamous breeders, one of the pair will dowse its belly feathers and use the moisture to soften nesting material for easy shaping of the nest, while the other will bring the material to the nest. The female builds the cup-shaped nest of coarse vegetation, lined with animal hair, rootlets and other fine material.

Meet the wonderfully odd Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex)! Also called the Show-Billed Stork and the Whale-Head, this species of bird native to the stamps and marshes of central East Africa. Listed as vulnerable in the wild, they are disturbed by habitat destruction and killing for their meat. These birds feed on fish, but also eat animals such as frogs, snakes, monitors, and young crocodiles. They are solitary birds even when mating, the pair sticks together to defend a territory while their protect a rather large nest of 1 to 3 eggs. Places that hold this amazing birds include @dallas_world_aquarium , @houstonzoo , @sdzsafaripark , @zootampa , and more.
