See the exhibition: Conversations in Patterns, Textiles, Figures and Portraits: IFY CHIEJINA AND JAMILLA OKUBO, An exhibition that speaks to the process of art by Kenyan American artist Jamilla Okubo and Nigerian American artist Ify Chiejina. Also in the gallery, the work of sculptor Nakazzi Hutchinson, multimedia artist Musah Swallah and photographer Marcia Wilson can be seen.
1:30pm-3pm: JAMILLA OKUBO & IFY CHIEJINA: ARTIST TALK moderated by ARIEL JACKSON. Conversations in Patterns, Textiles, Figures and Portraits: JAMILLA OKUBO AND IFY CHIEJINA is an exhibition that speaks to the process of art by Kenyan American artist Jamilla Okubo and Nigerian American artist Ify Chiejina. Artist Ariel Jackson will moderate the talk with these two artists about their work.
3pm – 4:45pm: Living Beyond the Precipice with Taneeka L. Wilder and Angela Williamson. Taneeka L. Wilder will discuss her book, “On the Precipice of Love Illuminated,” and share some pieces from the book itself, her journey, as an author. Angela Williamson will be speaking and reading from her upcoming poetry book.These two authors will be showcasing our work, and books will be available for purchase.
5pm-6:30pm: Art of African Textiles by Atim Annette Oton with State of the Arts NYC.
7pm-8:30pm: Revisiting & Re-Energizing Harlem’s Exciting Cultural Landscape for the Future. As Harlem seems to be losing more and more of its cultural imagery Barbara Jones of The Harlem Swing Dance Society will lead a exciting review of Harlem’s most famed dance and discuss the need to restore stronger its significance and legacy in the community. Includes Film Clips w/ Q & A Talk Back Discussion.
