I'm biased, but it was a fantastic event put on by @suresh @yoyodyne7 @mikedicaro & team! And lots of love to photo buddy @boneats and the rest of the #AFoodMob for being food runners. 💕 expect all curry this week.

Have been craving Ethiopian food of late, and wanted to check out Nazareth. Alas, a "closed in March, be back any time in April" sign was plastered on their door. Wasn't even an April Fool's joke...sigh... So when one door closes (or it is just plain closed to you), another opens. We walked down the street to @lalibelatoronto instead, which is always a solid choice. The veggie platter for two + meat combo for two + Yeawaze tibs. Plus all the injera. Really do love the spices and seasonings at Lalibela. Sad face that they don't do their Ethiopian coffee and popcorn service anymore though.

Eeeeee...adorable little river crabs (aka sawakani) that we recently had at @masakinotl. Fried until super crispy and seasoned with salt. They are super cute!! (And delicious!) @misfittoye and I may have had a little fun with them and made our crabs fight each other. I lost that battle... ~

A large assortment of sausages the girls picked up from Starsky and Super Sausage. Mystery medley bag of meat ends from Starsky. Sausages, pepperettes, and head cheeses from Super Sausage. We super loved the double garlic sausage from SS. Also really liked their pepperettes--great smokey flavour.

Couldn't resist some squash blossoms when we saw them at the farm stand. Rather than go through the trouble of deep-frying them, stuffed them with a ricotta-herb mixture and butter-steamed/poached them. A much lighter way to prep them. Super delicious. Would happily make these again if only the blossoms weren't such a pain to clean. 😝

Beautiful, super fresh lobster sashimi @masakinotl. Sweet with a fantastic texture. Super impressed with the fish and seafood we were being served. Tail was served as sashimi; the rest was taken into the kitchen and made into soup.

Love grilling season. One of my fave things to throw on the grill are chicken wings. Grilled wings with shishito peppers and herbs. Wings were marinated in a vinaigrette of lime juice, soy sauce, sesame oil, and shallots. Recipe from @bonappetitmag.

A lovely, refreshing summer dessert. Mango-pomelo sago (楊枝甘露) is a popular Hong Kong dessert. I had it for the first time over a decade ago at dim sum while in HK, and subsequently had it again at the dessert chain Hui Lau San (許留山). Was reminded of this dessert a couple of weeks ago when we had a similar dish at a new Chinese dessert place in North York. It's a really easy dessert that comes together in minutes. I actually opted to use canned kesar mango pulp--super convenient and you just can't beat the colour and flavour of kesars! Made it vegan-friendly by sticking to just coconut milk (traditionally evaporated milk would also be used). Blended the mango pulp and coconut milk--skipped any sweetener as I felt the mango pulp was sweet enough on its own. Mixed in some cooked sago pearls, then stuck it in the fridge to chill. Come serving time, I added some freshly diced ripe mango and small chunks of pomelo. The perfect balance of mango and coconut, and I love the texture of that sago!

Super excited when @toronto2niagara told us there was really good sushi in Niagara-on-the-Lake! The chef is a former head chef at Japango, and imports a lot of his fish from Japan. Us girls decided that, after a long day of shopping (such a hard life!), to skip making our own dinner and head out for sushi instead. What a thrilling experience to find great sushi @masakinotl. Shari was on the mushier side this time, unfortunately, but the fish quality was most excellent. I especially fell in love with the sardines. Incredibly soft and silky texture that just melted in my mouth. Not too oily and fishy. Perfectly balanced with that little bit of fried garlic on top. So good that a second round of this needed to be ordered.
They're still technically in soft launch mode but word is starting to get around town and they're getting busier. Really hope this successful and consistently excellent restaurant, because we're looking forward to repeat visits here whenever we're in town!

What an incredible #Canada150 spread us #AFoodMob girls put together last night. Throwing all the stuff on the grill. Grilled chicken wings with shishito peppers and herbs. Steaks with garlic scape chimichurri. Smoked pork ribs. All the vegetables--asparagus, zucchini, green onions, garlic scapes. Grilled cabbage salad. Kale caesar salad. Grilled pineapple and sriracha-lime watermelon. Garlic knots. Did I mention we were only 5 people?!! 😂😂😂

Third meal @masakinotl and they just keep surprising. These sawakani (tiny Japanese river crabs) were a wonderful special last night. It's early in the season for them, so the shells were super thin. Deep fried and salted -- magical crab chips. ~

A special treat from @nuitregular at Pai last night: betel leaf wraps with shrimp, coconut, cucumber, garlic, shallots, ginger, peanuts, dried shrimp, pomelo, chiles, and tamarind chutney. You wrap all the ingredients into a leaf and enjoy all the different flavours and textures in each bite. There's a reason my sister and niece from Chicago always request a meal @paitoronto when they visit. Chef Nuit never fails to bring bliss to our stomachs and our hearts. Thank you, Nuit! 💕 ~
