Today's viewing: Gone Baby Gone "He lied to me. Now I can't think of one reason big enough for him to lie about that's small enough not to matter." Films adapted from books are odd beasts. The best ones are seamless and you can't even tell. The worst ones are long, rambling slogs. This is somewhere in between. Oddly structured enough to make it clear it's not a film written as a film, but still entertaining enough to keep you hooked.
The performances are all grand (especially Amy Ryan and Casey Affleck) and there's so much plot in the film that it keeps a much higher pace than a lot of cop/mystery films. Michelle Monaghan's character is poorly defined and seems shoehorned in throughout just to be there for a couple of good moments.
Ultimately, the film builds up to a very interesting dilemma with no clear right answer, and stories that do that should always be celebrated.
Also, Boston is a terrifying place of god, anger and dirty people. Cheers lied to me all those years.
