FLASHBACK FRIDAY .Going back a few years... Pride ‘94. Corporate America had realized that the gay community was a massive untapped revenue stream. Mainstream brands started pouring money into advertising to the gay community. Particularly alcohol brands. This was one of the first of those ads, in the summer of ‘94. Shot by David Morgan , who was one of NYC’s primo photographers back then. Imagine ... 24 years ago, this was really pushing boundaries. I saved one of these posters that plastered Manhattan by the hundreds. #gayandproud #gayadvertising #advertisinghistory #frolicking #parkfun #centralpark #centralparknyc #the90s #captainmorgan #cuttingup #bandofbrothers

It's officially summer now, which always makes us think of ice cream, and then we can't help but go to this gem of a photo from a publicity ad from Nash Motors in Kenosha circa 1953-1954. We've included all the photos we have from this set this time. It seems they're trying to get a 'Get ready for summer' message across, but we're not entirely sure. #librariesofinstagram #advertisinghistory #advertising #kenoshahistory #digitalcollections

Tradition has it that William Younger I, aged 16 set up a brewery in Kirkgate, Leith in 1749. William Younger II opened his own brew house within Holyrood Abbey precinct in 1796. By 1891 the company was producing 400,000 barrels of beer 🍻per year, becoming a public company in 1889. #beer #Brewers #archives #Edinburgh #uofgasc #scottishbrewingarchive #williamyoungers #brewinghistory #Scottishbrewing #advertisinghistory

A faded advertisement on the side of a building in downtown New Lexington, Perry County, Ohio I took today. I have no idea of the history of W.H. Nixon or his business, but this is a fine example of vintage advertising that once filled the sides of buildings all over the region and country. #vintageadvertising #perrycounty #appalachianohio #ohiohistory #buildingart #advertisinghistory #drugstorehistory #NewLex

A scene from "The Merry Wives of Windsor," from an 1893 set of chromolithographed collectible cards issued by the Liebig Extract of Meat Company (Liebig's Fleisch-Extract). This set portrays Shakespeare's Falstaff in scenes the Henry IV plays and "The Merry Wives of Windsor;" it's just one of many collectible card sets produced by the Leibig Company. #FolgerFinds #MeatExtract

Just got the chance to download the pictures from our family trip to DC, we're missing every part of it. It was a big treat for us and the kids alike! Here's a shot overlooking the main lobby at the National Museum of Natural History. Something that puts it all into perspective, as you feel like time has stopped at the sight of this huge mammal. Can't say enough about the beauty of that place. Wish we had more time to enjoy the details, but the twins were about to bring animals back to life 🙈😅 we had to run for it.

2018 Resolution: Stay in touch with friends and family. A weekly 📞 call might help.
Western Electric manufactured the pink “Princess” telephone beginning in 1959. In mid-century America, as telephones became mainstream instruments of teen communication, phone manufacturers began designing specifically for the growing teenage market. Available in white, beige, pink, blue, and turquoise, the Princess was designed to be a bedside phone for teenagers—specifically teenage girls. To facilitate bedside use, the phone took up only a third of the space of the standard desk phone. It also had a night 💡under the dial—perfect for late-night conversations. These features were brought to the fore with the advertising slogan: “It’s little, it’s lovely, it lights!” #NewYearsResolution #HistoryResolution #PhoneHistory #Teens #TeenHistory #BusinessHistory #2018Goals #AdvertisingHistory
