Sandy, the introverted but passionate dog
(Maaf buat yg susah memahami bahasa inggris.
Pop culture always messes up with our brains if we don't take our time to sift through the info. One of them is that dogs are always cute and approachable.
But having Sandy has opened my eyes to a different reality = introverted dogs.
During the adoption process, I noticed that she was hard to approach, while Rocky never left my side.
Almost eight months later, after countless interactions with familiar and unfamiliar people, she still only feels comfortable with me. Our close interactions too were not instantaneous. Only recently, the last month, did she start to demand petting from me. Before, she would lie down and show her belly whenever I walked towards her. And in the first two months, I had to walk to her calmly to approach her, otherwise she would run away.
This behavior would have so frustrating n required lots of patience.
But the wait is rewarding. Now, while she gives way to Rocky for my affection, Sandy is not shy to ask it herself anymore. She paws me when she want it. She's also very vocal and jumps at me when she sees me getting home after an errand.
Both dogs are still shy of the strangers. Sandy disappears from view. Although Rocky hangs out with them, she's still hard to approach. Many guests are often disappointed for not being able to pet them. I often feel sorry for them too. But in the end, it's good that they're hard to approach because we do get many guests who are afraid of dogs.
In conclusion, for those who want to adopt dogs, please don't come with the Hollywood notion of a perfect dog. The only accurate portrayal of dogs by the entertainment industry is loyalty. But often we have to earn it.
