Day 7/66 accountability challenge! Today’s topic is diet, specifically alcohol. I won’t lie, I really enjoy it, the taste and the social aspect of having a beer with a friend. As much as I hate to admit it, it really is a toxin, regardless of what we tell ourselves when we consume it. Although I never recommend eliminating anything completely as it can be more difficult to adhere to, alcohol is one thing that can never hurt to remove. It really has no benefit to the body and can interfere with fat loss. So for this challenge and my efforts to recharge my nutrition and training I won’t be consuming much if any alcohol. It will save me $$ and help my body adjust to my new routine. 4 tips for diet adherence 🥑

1. Set yourself a weekly diet goal. A weekly goal allows you to tailor your daily allowance to suit your lifestyle so that you can still enjoy a few 🍸 or 🍕

2. Plan and prep your meals in advance. If everything is prepared then you giving yourself a better chance of achieving your desired goal 👌

3. 80:20 Rule. This is a flexible approach to nutrition that allows you to have some of the foods you enjoy and still stay on track 💪 As it suggests make sure your diet consists of 80% nutrient dense foods and the other 20% will consist of the less nutritious foods such as pizza 😋

4. DON’T punish yourself with cardio! If you eat something that you shouldn’t have don’t freak out and start punishing yourself on the treadmill or stair master 🙄 if you slip, just get back on track with your next meal and tighten things up again!

Let's face it, most diets work. Create a calorie defecit and eat foods you like. Sounds easy. The problem with diets most of the time comes down to adherence, discipline and mentality.

After a long day in work and when we are tired, we often make poor food choices and opt for foods that are quick, energy dense and more often than not, nutrient poor.

The key to long term dietary adherence is seeing your diet as part of your everyday routine, whereby you can incorporate foods you like into your daily meals. By preparing those meals in advance you can help to curb cravings later in the day and encourage you to stay on track. If we prepare in advance, we can enhance our chances of making good food choices and being consistent with our eating habits.

WHY WE FAIL❗️

Recently, I've become fascinated with learning why people fail to achieve their fitness goals.
.
My interest sparked from coaching clients over the last 3 years. I've worked with people who have really wanted to lose those last 15lbs of body fat but failed. I would do everything I could to make their meal plan enjoyable, and easy to stick to.
.
I would hear countless stories of reasons why people ended up veering off the meal plan and over-consuming calories. I began to notice patterns and triggers causing these actions.
.
Don't get me wrong, no one is perfect... I have my days where I crack and eat junk. We're not robots.
Emotions certainly play a role.
.
I decided to do more research on the topic and it completely consumed my time researching the latest nutrition and training articles.
.
I figured... what good is it for me to learn more about optimizing my clients' training & nutrition if they can't stick to everything I give them.
.
I've found myself stuck in that situation often where I know what the client needs but without them following it, we're going nowhere.
.
I'm compiling evidence and I will share more of my findings at a later date. On a quest to help people succeed.🙌🏼
