Trying to watch something other than the character-driven or relationship dramas I usually watch. Heard good things about #StartUp so S1, here I come.
But still I want to connect to the characters and as they are introduced through their sex acts in the pilot episode I'm laughing a little bit. The romp between the FBI agent Phil Rask (Martin Freeman) and his soon-to-be ex-wife is rather embarrassing to watch, presenting him as pathetically pretentious, which I'm not sure was the intention. It's just hard watching Dr Watson being tough and rough.
The female characters bring me little joy. Izzy is an ever-grumpy digital wizard stuck in some teenage mode, maybe cause she is forced to live with her parents.
Maddie Pierce is the new young FBI agent, smart and thorough who doesn't want to mix business with pleasure, although it seems only a matter of time before she won't be able to resist Rask's charm.
Adam Brody is great though as banker Nick, getting in to things he can't handle. His girlfriend Taylor is your usual, rather boring, fair, rich daddy's girl, expert in eventplanning. And then we have the bad guy Ronald, trying to be good.
Story is not bad though, Miami's financial crime world and a digital currency, and maybe the characters will grow on me and surprise me later on. Season 2 is coming up so I will rush through S1.
