Cheesing with the programmer/person I look upto, on a building aptly named after the first person to create an algorithm and the one she looks up to 😁 ❤ #adalovelace

Primeros comentarios de #cuentosdebuenasnochesparaniñasrebeldes después de conocer la vida de #adalovelace y #Alekwek

We just finshed reading about you @msalekwek thank you for being such an inspiration to us!

The Google Manifesto opened up some important conversations that need to be had around the gender gap in Silicon Valley. However, we are still shocked by how little analysis is addressing the intersectionality of this issue. There are 2% African Americans in Silicon Valley right now and only around 15 African American women have ever raised more than a million dollars in venture capital in the entire world! In our latest episode, we speak to some of the key players in Silicon Valley trying to make the tech industry more representative and what's at stake if it isn't. Ada was an English mathematician and writer, chiefly known for her work on Charles Babbage's proposed mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine. She was the first to recognise that the machine had applications beyond pure calculation, and created the first algorithm intended to be carried out by such a machine. As a result, she is often regarded as the first to recognise the full potential of a "computing machine" and the first computer programmer.] #womenintech #siliconvalley #tech #leanin #stancepodcast #podcast #representation #adalovelace #googlemanifesto #melindagates #feifeili #harvard #irisbohnet #artificialintelligence #diversityintech #blendoor #mit #stephanielampkin

Playing catch up with #HarpiesReadAug 📚 For day 13 (#titlepage) I present: The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage!

This book tells the story of Victorian era STEMinist Ada Lovelace. She was a mathematics whiz, a technologist, and a visionary, to say the least. Case in point: she was a computer programmer before computers even existed 🖥💁🏽 How can this be? Through her work with Charles Babbage's "analytical engine!" While Babbage imagined the machine as a purely mathematical machine, Ada believed it could have applications beyond pure calculation - and she wrote the algorithms to show it. This analytical engine would become the basis for our computers, and her algorithms would become the basis of our computers codes!

The book is a combination of graphic novel * epistolary novel (I just learned that term today!) * obsessive footnotes and endnotes - which is just my kind of thing. I'm so glad I finally got my hands on a copy! 📖 @bookish.harpy #HarpiesReadAug #ReadWomen2017 #popsugarreadingchallenge #tbr #bookriot #readharder #technology #womeninSTEM

Accidentally walked past Ada Lovelace's house last Saturday and started spouting facts because I love her.

It shouldn't come as a surprise - a girl was the first to write code. The surprise is the date - 1842. The Honourable Augusta Ada Byron, Countess of Lovelace was the eldest and only legitimate child of George Gordon, Lord Byron. He deserted her before her first birthday. It would be 36 years before they were together again - when she was buried beside him. But Ada was a true Gordon. Presented at 17, she was the darling of the Court. There were multiple affairs; the name Charles Dickens was whispered. Her mother worried about the Gordon family insanity. Through it all, Ada studied, her genius in mathamatics recognized early. Ada became the protege of mathematician Charles Babbage, writing The Notes to explain his Analytical Engine, complete with a method for calculating an algorithm for the Engine to compute numbers - the first computer program! Ada died at 36 - a life lived fully. Among her accolades: Ada Lovelace Day, celebrated to "...raise the profile of women in science, technology, engineering and maths." The United Stated Department of Defense named its computer language "Ada" and the British Computer Society awards the Lovelace Medal.

Ada Lovelace, Poet of Science, tells the remarkable story of the first computer programmer. Lovelace was the daughter of renowned poet Lord Byron and was the perfect blend of her creative father and mathematically gifted mother. She was a true pioneer, understanding the transformative potential of coding a hundred years before the digital age.

If you enjoyed the Women in Science collection by Rachel Ignotofsky, this selection will be right up your alley. .
This also pairs beautifully with one of our favorite games- Robot Turtles. The most backed board game in Kickstarter history, Robot Turtles teaches the fundamentals of programming and is appropriate for ages 4 and up. 👍🏻👍🏻

I recently bought this book as a gift for a friend's little girl and had to share how utterly beautiful it is.😍 It's filled with 200 tales of women achievers from across the world (including Mary Kom & Jhansi ki Rani from India!! 😎), with a one page story on each person accompanied by a beautiful illustration. I was particularly impressed by the wide range of fields/professions that were covered. So much to learn and enjoy here for young girls and boys alike.
Needless to say, the four year old I gifted it to was absolutely smitten with the book and instantly made me read a few stories. Now I am tempted to buy a personal copy for myself too 😬 📚 #goodnightstoriesforrebelgirls #bedtimestories #womenachievers #womeninstem #adalovelace #marykom #booksforkids #childrensbooks #bookstagram #instabooks #booklover #bibliophile #bookworm #books #readersofinstagram #igreads #bookloverssociety #goodreads
