Anime review time for Cross Game!
He understands. That he can only do what he must do, and aside from that, he can only believe.
- Yuuhei Azuma from Cross Game
Ahh man, 50 episodes flew by as fast as Kou's baseball pitches. Kind of didn't want to binge this series too swiftly to its end… but here I am now.
If you're not comfortable with faithful adaptations of source material (for whatever damned reason that is), then this definitely isn't the anime for you. Cross Game manages to capture and present everything that is in the original manga and maintain the high degree of quality present in it, thus the 50-strong episodes of high caliber. Though, aren't adaptations usually supposed to be downgraded, shabby copies of their parent work? That's one thing Cross Game is doing wrong, I guess.
Other positives: admirable characters, exceptional character development, excellent story progression, a lovely lineup of theme songs, and everything else. I wanna thank our protagonist Kou Kitamura, the Tsukishimas, the baseball club, and everyone else for their time with us.
If you're somehow wanting to get hooked to baseball, then watch Cross Game. I know I have. This is also as much a coming-of-age story as it is a sports anime.
Strangely enough, as much as there is a lot to talk about and to love about Cross Game, I have nothing much else to say about it other than that you should really watch the series. I feel like me in my current state cannot express and relate what is in this anime that. What you are reading now is probably less of a review and more of a manifestation of the numbness I feel after finishing that series, so I'm sorry about this crappy substandard writing.
I love this anime so much.
Cross Game is just everything: a fastball to the gut, a tricky curveball, a third strike, a desperate swing for glory, and, ultimately, a homerun for a winning series. It's an anime I will miss. And it's an anime I will remember, definitely. Please reader, do not die before watching Cross Game.
Overall rating: Must-Watch: 5/5
A ridiculously good score for a comparatively ridiculously good anime.
