These aren't just flowers or buds or signs of spring. They are powerful depictions of fruit breaking through after years of struggle and even decimation. They are perseverance in vivid color.
The red pomegranate flowers have multiplied radically on this tree/bush that once got mowed over. Life had barely taken root before the damage was done. Years later flowers formed, then fell with virtually no evidence of fruit. Would it ever produce?
The plums are hard to see, all green and covered in leaves, but the trunk was stripped by a weed trimmer. Half the bark ripped away and its innards lay bare. We wondered if it would survive.
The green peach buds I never thought I’d see. Once the pile of ashes got dumped in the trunk, I was sure the tree would die too.
Then the rose bush got cut to the ground. A third son found the way of others before him. We thought he accidentally destroyed the beauty I planted. Sorrow ensued.
Yet, hope still stands. Brutalities of life strip, decimate, and declare death.
God has other plans.
Remain steadfast. Cultivate the soil of your soul. God is still the great gardener.
