this painting is probably one of my absolute favorites. if you know me, you know i struggle with the idea of being both an artist and an environmentalist. art is a lot of producing and inevitably a lot of waste. i constantly have to buy new paints, brushes, canvases, wood, resin, the list goes on and what follows buying new supplies is turning around and throwing a lot of it away. so this painting? i placed it in the corner of my workspace over the last few months and every time i had leftover resin instead of pouring it into the trash i poured it onto this canvas. i know it’s not a lot in the grand scheme of things...so i managed to save a few pounds of crap headed towards the pacific garbage patch...but the idea that this piece of art was essentially created with worthless material and yet it took the most amount of time to make gives me the feeling that maybe optimistic isn’t such a terrible thing to be, maybe things are looking up.
