I’m all about that body positivity so imma post this. Yeah I still got stretch marks and yeah I still got some ways to go but that don’t change the fact that I’m smashing goals and EARNING the body I always wanted. Most surreal moment of my life thus far was standing in the shower the other night and realising I couldn’t grab onto my belly anymore. There was simply nothing to hold onto. That’s how I knew for sure I was onto something. Few deadlifts today. 135kg for 4 reps was my top set. Wasn't feeling very strong at all so dropped the weight down and tried to lift with a bit more speed than the usual doubles and singles. Tried out a different nose tork called Skull Smash. Pretty decent stuff if you're into your heavy lifting! -

This week I decided my #mondaymotivation is myself! The past few months have been some of the most mentally challenging times I have been through, and as a result I haven’t been training as hard or as much as I would have liked. I have been scrolling through insta looking endlessly for someone that was going to make me say fuck yes and give me my motivation back, but then I took a step back and remembered how far I’ve actually come. To think that just over 18 months ago that person on the left was me is unbelievable, and despite my setbacks the past few months I have come a long way from when I first walked into the gym. Step up your warm up game! Strength is really simple. You teach your muscle fibres to contract to move weight. Your central nervous system learns what muscle fibres to use and what not to use. You should look at strength exercises as training movements, not muscles. So how can we teach our CNS better? I have 2 warm ups for you! 1 to help achieve maximum muscle activation, 1 to help you activate the correct muscles at the right point of the movement. 1st up is the lift against pins. It's really simple, 3 sets of 3 reps with a hold for a few seconds. I'd use an empty bar (Or light plates for deadlifts to get your set up right). Understand that the aim is to contract against the pins, not hold the weight there. Congrats, you just achieved maximum muscle activation! This should make you shake, which is you CNS turning on those dormant fibres and getting them ready to fire. 2nd warm up is the multi pause. A lot less science in this. All you need to do is pause at different parts of the movement and engage everything. So on bench, I make sure my leg drive is maximal, glutes are flexed, my scap is tucked in tight, my core is braced and my pecs are firing. Sounds like a lot to do, but it should take a 1 second pause to get all this. I prefer 3 pauses, each at a different part of the lift. I'd use about 70% of your 1RM for 3 sets of 3. Try these out and see how smoothie your main lifts feel after warming up properly!
