At face value, my instagram can make me come across as a man who's well-off, priviledged and has little cares in the world. At mind value, I actually represent the unrepresented Black community in mainstream travel. I want to be the change I see in the world; a world where they don't even display images of Black travelers going to Africa or the Caribbean! As if being Black and a traveler just isn't profitable for the industry so why promote it? I challenge you to search the net for images of Black, non-celebrities in Bora Bora, Zanzibar, Santorini, Bali or any of the places I've recently been to. The ratio of Blacks to non-Blacks is staggering (if there even is a ratio!). On a subconscious level we are programmed to believe that this world isn't for us to see, taste, smell and experience. On a subconscious level we are taught we aren't capable of exploring outside of our communities, public housing and ghettos. We mainly have visuals of broken, Black, ratchet families on TV but rarely a cohesive, Black family unit in an exotic location that's doing well.
My instagram won't show you the grind I go through to get the funds right in the account, the months of research and planning I do to have a peace of mind in each country or the grind I'll go through once I'm back to get ready again. No change in this world comes easy but the change will be so beautiful when it's complete! I may not see it in my lifetime but I'll be sure to leave a legacy in this travel game as a pioneer in World Touring. (Waiheke Island, New Zealand)
