If y’all saw my stories, you’ll know that I took a soap-making class this morning. And @jubeedubee and I got awesome free coffee (it’s related to this soap story... read on).
I’m a pretty creative and craft lady and usually dive into any crafts by myself and just enjoy the self-experimenting and learning process. Soap is one of those things I’ve been afraid of trying due to the extreme caustic nature of sodium hydroxide (lye) and warnings I’ve read of possible explosions. 🤣 I mean I’ve used it before as a mordant in fabric dyeing, but I’ve never had to use that much.
Anyways, I brought my own luffa so that @jubeedubee and I could put it into our soap. It was a very long one, so I cut it in half. It was nice to share the luffa info and knowledge with the instructor/owner (named pronounced “Roo”) of @kingsroostla, as well as other class participants. After class, we lunched and stopped for coffee before my long drive home. I grabbed the other half of the luffa for my friend before we entered the coffee shop. The barista was so intrigued, that he offered us a trade for some luffa. So, for a 5” slice of my homegrown organic luffa, we both got delicious iced coffees! The lesson here friends, is to carry a luffa with you wherever you go.
I was also amusing myself during the long-ass drive in SoCal traffic. I kept smiling at the thought of carrying a stick of luffa in my car and thinking not many people can say that. 😬 Btw, you see the food container in my car? When I say I try to live sustainably, I really mean it. I often travel with and bring my own food containers when I go out. They hold leftovers I may want to take home for myself, or for the chickens, so that nothing is ever wasted.
