This one goes along with yesterday's point > how we sometimes fuel negative emotions by throwing too many useless thoughts at them. It struck me that talking about my problems brings me a lot of clarity. So I began journaling again. Instead of dwelling on a particular thought or emotion for too long, I'll just write down all that I feel about it in my journal. Then its done. I find I don't think about it anymore. Whereas before doing this, I could cling to a negative emotion all day.
I like to always be pragmatic about myself. It's one quality I pride myself on. Being able to honestly and openly analyze my faults > learn a lesson > then hold on to the positive feeling of the lesson learned. I've found journaling helps me with this. Instead of holding on to both the lesson AND the negative emotion, I can now, through meditation and journaling, release the negative but keep the positive, and change myself for the better.
Whether it be talking to a friend, using a journal, writing poetry, etc., having a sounding board is crucial to stop dwelling on a negative emotion for too long and letting your anxiety brain go wild with irrelevant hypotheticals.
