I hope your #Hanukkah, #Christmas, #Kwanzaa or perhaps just an average Saturday, Sunday, Monday was bright. It was a bit cold, the holidays are full of sensation aren't they? Even if you don't celebrate the sense organs are awakened. There are tastes, smells, sights, touches, and sounds. Your tastebuds are tickled with savory and sweet; you smell pine trees, cinnamon, cloves, and perhaps chestnuts; your eyes see Christmas lights, menorahs, kinaras, children and adults dressed in their holiday best; hugs and kisses are passed between loved ones, handshakes at the company party; the sound of Christmas music, carolers, the incessant beeping of registers at stores. You can imagine it all can't you? This week we are focusing on the Manomaya Kosha, or rather the mental sheath. From a western point of view we consider the mental body to be our mind our thought process, but in yoga it is not only the brain but also the entire nervous system. The first sheath the Annamaya Sheath or physical body gives us our form even after we pass the body still exists for a time. Our Pranamaya Sheath or energetic body welcomes us when we are born and leaves when we exhale for the last time. Our Manomaya Kosha goes on hiatus every day for a period of time, we naturally experience a natural form of Pratyahara or sensory withdrawal when we sleep. We go within beyond our primary consciousness. The Manomaya Kosha creates the sensation of I or me, it tends to tie us to the bondage of sensation or liberate us from attachment. We'll explore the depths of our awareness and sensations of our physical practice, and delve deeper in our savasana exploring what lies beyond. We have all been subservient to our desires from time to time avoiding deeper reflection. Let's dive in.
