#WomanChampionWednesday - Just finished reading Nadia Murad's memoir The Last Girl, about her experience of persecution, emotional & physical torture, rape, and being ripped away from her identity, dignity, family, & community under ISIS rule in Iraq. The journey to liberate herself from captivity had me in tears..to think that while I was touring the world & chasing dreams a few years ago, a young Yazidi girl was trying to escape a living hell in her own homeland. Her experience, along with thousands of other stories of Yazidi girls like her, is beyond what my mind can even fathom. I can't make sense of it. That truly is what it means to exist in a bubble. How some humans on this planet are randomly punished, & some are granted with safety, education, food, equal rights, shelter, i just don't know why. It feels unfair. Nadia's will to survive when her soul was dying, and her current mission to heal what's left of the Yazidis (who are victims of genocide) is a reminder that life is too short and not to waste time...to make use of our existence on this earth. The universe has been kind to me and I must never take that for granted.
