What to do if you find a baby bird on the ground!
Many species of bird such as the Kookaburra, Magpie, Plover and Owl’s leave the best and spend as many as 1-2 weeks on the ground before the can fly.
This is normal and vital part of the young bird’s development.
People think they have been orphaned when they find them on the ground, but really in fact they are just learning the ropes under the watchful eye of their parents.
Taking these bird’s into captivity denies them the opportunity to learn skills they will need to survive in the wild. Unless a bird is injured or sick, it is essential to leave them outside to learn from their parents.
If you think the fledgling may be in danger, it should be put in a safe place off the ground, ideally in a tree or shrub.
