Virginia Stand Up!
Simone Askew, a native of Fairfax, Virginia, made history last year as she was named First Captain of the Corps of Cadets at West Point. She is the first African-American woman to hold the position. Simone is blazing her own path and is an inspiration to many who’ve gone before her and to those who will come after.
Eugene ‘EJ’ Coleman, an Alexandria native, was a member of the Class of 2016. EJ was the first African American cadet to simultaneously hold the two toughest positions at the academy, and only the third cadet to ever hold both First Captain and Class President. He followed in the footsteps of the likes of General Pershing, and Heisman Trophy winner, Pete Dawkins.
