I have been both fortunate and unfortunate to have had my eyes opened from a young age because of my background and family history. Addison can say the same thing. My ancestors, not only had their children taken from them and sent to “schools” to “tame their wild ways” where their hair was cut and they were beaten for speaking their language and had their culture stripped from them, they also had their lands taken and so many lives. Addison’s ancestor were slaves. Another tragic tale in our history where families and culture were not preserved. When is the USA going to learn?
Trump’s executive order is not the end. It’s full of loop holes and doesn’t do anything about the children who have already been separated from their parents, kids as young as eight months! If the USA is finally going to move on and stop this nonsense, it’s up to us.
1st: Learn who your representatives are here: https://www.house.gov/htbin/findrep
Call them, ask what they’re doing about the “Zero Tolerance” Act, remind them they’re up for re-election and you’ll be watching.
2nd: Sign up for a “Families Belong Together” Rally here: https://act.moveon.org/event/families-belong-together_attend1/search/
Let’s make our voices heard!!
3rd: Consider donating to RAICES - “The Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES) serves immigrants and refugees in our community by providing immigration-related legal services, advocacy and opportunities for educational and social support. We believe that by actively promoting the well-being and informed participation of immigrants and refugees in the community, everyone benefits.”
