Last run in the 2017 #six4six campaign is complete! #first #ultramarathon ✅ This #50miler is certainly one for the books. From almost not getting to the start line, hitchhiking for rides, getting lost during said 50 miler, wardrobe malfunction to experiencing hypothermia and more; each unexpected challenge is a story of its own. I was truly afraid at the last 4.5 miles when it was 29 degrees, pitch dark with the uncertainly of being on the correct path (again!) because the blue flags were no where to be seen. But through it all, it reminded me of the challenges stacked against our kids each and every day. To see them excluded because they do not fit society's norm infuriates me to no end. Just because they may behave differently, communicate differently, perhaps loud when the expectation is for them to be quiet or move about when they are meant to sit still, does not mean that they don't understand and are not able. And it certainly does not mean that they need to be excluded from their peers and society. This is our mission, and what we strive for each and every day. To ensure that every individual has full accessibility and inclusion. We embrace diversity in race, religion, gender equality- what about diversity in abilities?
I am thankful for everyone who has supported this journey, who stood with us, shared stories, for your relentless fighting, and being unapologetic in your stance. Change is coming, slowly but surely. Lots of emotions with completing the #ulta and the #six4six campaign. Couldn't have done it without the support of my family, my running peeps (for those 330 am long runs, and for always bringing the banana when it was needed most), and all of you who gave generously to the #sensory and #lifeBOKs initiative. Together, we formed 4 running teams, ran in major marathons, and raised not only funds for our kids, but elevated the level of awareness and pushed the boundaries of inclusion. #inclusion #acceptance #potential #limitless #children #autism #weareone @kulturec
