#Art fix this weekend at the @WallaceMuseum, followed by some içli köfte and #iskender at @IshtarLondon. There's a small (about 15 paintings, on loan from the Bowes Museum) free exhibition of Spanish art at the #WallaceCollection running through to January, which given it has two of my faves was worth a look.
There are two paintings by #Goya, plus a canvas by #ElGreco, thought to be the earliest of his six Tears Of St Peter. I've said it before, but he is easily my favourite religious painter. That's because his paintings don't feel tediously repetitive like so much other religious painting. In fact, they don't feel like religious painting at all, more like fantasy art, because he pushed the mysticism so much.
It was also good to stare at some #JoshuaReynolds too, given I've been doing a lot of Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood reading. They were reacting against his style, but I like both their stuff and what they maligned as Sir Sloshua. The Wallace includes plenty of Reynolds, plus a room where you can compare several Reynolds portraits of the actor and poet #MaryRobinson (including one by #Gainsborough).
